TRUE LUXURY
Having a shirt or a pair of trousers made for you is an entirely unique experience. It will never be repeated. The season, the fabric, the tailor, their mood, the combination of it all. Access to this simple, solitary act of creation is what we consider luxury. Our clothes are not only made to your measurements, but also their creation takes place in small workshops owned and run by artisans, in their own time and space. We believe that benefitting from this humane and thoughtful manufacturing process and the resulting made-to-measure, one-of-a-kind clothing is a true luxury in the world we currently inhabit.
Ever since the 13th century and Marco Polo’s travels on the Silk Road, lands and cultures along that route, including those of the Indian Subcontinent, have been the sources of the finest, most refined and “luxurious” fabrics, perfumes, carpets and spices. But, enigmatically, it is perceived as “luxury” when a person has a shirt made in New York, London or Milan, and not when a person does the same in Lahore or Delhi. Even after a tremendously long and tumultuous history, including full-on industrial revolution, to the surprise of some and for reasons unexplained, these sartorial traditions, full of craft and skill, continue to thrive.
Over the last two decades, low labor costs have turned these parts of the world into an outpost of cheap and fast clothing manufacturing, eroding and diminishing the production of traditional crafts. Local populations have suffered economically as a result. At the Post-Romantic Co., we are working to solve this problem, one artisan at a time.
Most people in the world “make do” with clothing sizes and fabrics, buying clothing that does not truly fit their particular body. Quite often a shirt that otherwise fits adequately can be too long or too short. Women still have a challenging time finding a well-fitting pair of pants. Most companies sell clothing made of blends that include polyester and nylon at exorbitant prices charged in the name of “prestige” and “luxury”. At the Post-Romantic Co., we are working to solve this problem, one garment at a time.
We create clothes for people who are mindful and recognize that things of beauty and good taste come into being when ordinary people simply create; when they do what they love doing. For us, the promise of the internet is to connect makers and consumers across borders and boundaries. We are delivering on that promise by connecting tailors in the Punjab region, who work in their own workshops, with the rest of the world. Over time we hope to expand our network of tailors across othter regions.
Rather than exploiting the planet, depleting its resources and impoverishing its inhabitants, our clothes enhance human creativity and help people who create, thrive.
