KAFTANS

This dreamy, cascading kaftan descends from that classic robe that has been worn in a variety of cultures around the world, from Mesopotamia to Southeast Asia, for thousands of years, famously by women with faces that launched a thousand ships. In Milton’s Paradise Lost, to somewhat console Adam’s despondency after the Fall, God grants him a vision of the future cities of Agra and Lahore as the splendid achievements of his descendants. This was by no means an exaggeration. The crafts and arts originated from these cities disseminated around the world. The Indian Sub-continent produced roughly two thirds of the world’s textiles and certainly the most refined and exquisite of all of them. The population and riches of Lahore exceeded those of London, Paris and Constantinople. Almost all the crafts and arts survive to this day. These kaftans were produced by the descendants of the artisans whose crafts gave Adam hope. Each of these silk kaftans is made from a pattern cut specifically for you. Painstakingly, patiently block-printed by hand in a family-owned workshop just outside Lahore.
